Prof. Zhanglian Hong received his B.S. and M.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University in 1990 and 1994, respectively. In 2002, he earned a Ph.D. degree from the University of Tokyo, Japan.

In 1994, he joined the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University. He was promoted to Associate Professor and Full Professor in 2002 and 2011, respectively.

Now, he leads an independent research group focused on the design, synthesis and characterization of advanced ceramics for aerospace application, low dimensional photoelectric energy conversion and storage materials, and new energy materials for high performance supercapacitor.

His research interests focused on three parts, 1) synthesis of nanostructured materials with well-defined and controllable size, morphology, structure and surface, 2) investigation of the processes at the low-dimensional surfaces/interfaces using extensively ex-situ and in-situ experimental methods, 3) developing new knowledge about the origin of high performance for the design and synthesis of new materials.

He has published over 110 peer-reviewed papers with total SCI citations over 2400.
