Professor Yang Deren from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University was recently elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in November, 2017.
Professor Yang is Director of the State Key Lab of Silicon Materials (2009-present), and Director of the Institute for Semiconductor Materials (2007-present) at Zhejiang University in China. He is also the chief scientist of a National Key Project for Basic Research of China.
He is also Vice Director of the China Photovoltaic Association. He is also honored as a member of the Expert Committee of Chinese Keystone Special Projects for IC Processes and SEMI China PV technical Committee, Equipment, and Materials; and a board member of the Chinese Renewable Energy Association and Chinese Crystal Association.
He received his degree in 1985 and his Ph.D. in 1991 from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Zhejiang University, where he then subsequently worked. In the 1990's, he worked in Japan, Germany, and Sweden for several years as a visiting researcher. He was promoted to an associate professor in 1993, and then a full professor in 1997 at Zhejiang University. In 2000, he was specially promoted by the Ministry of Education of China to a Cheung Kong Professor. He received the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in China in 2002, and won the Chinese Young Science and Technology Award in 2006.
He has engaged in silicon materials research used for microelectronic devices, solar cells, and nano-devices. He has authored 13 books as both an author or co-author, including 5 in English, and edited 5 proceedings of the international conference. He has published over 680 research papers in international peer reviewed journals, such as AM, Nano Lett., JACS, APL, PRB and et al, and been cited more than 8500 times. His H index is 50, and he also holds 130 patents. In the past, he chaired or co-chaired over 20 international conferences or symposia and was appointed a member of international adviser (program) committees of more than 50 international conferences or symposia and also presented more than 50 invited talks in international conferences or symposia. He is also on the editor boards of 8 journals including 3 international journals.
