    The Center of Surface and Structure Modified Inorganic Functional Materials

    The Center of Surface and Structure Modified Inorganic Functional Materials was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2007. It is based on Zhejiang University, with the Institute of Inorganic Non-Metallic Materials and the Institute of Semiconductor Materials as the core, integrating the national key disciplines of materials physics and chemistry and the doctor station of materials science and engineering.

    According to the international high-tech development trend and industry demand, the center takes the significant engineering technology innovations as the core and focuses on the development and integration of new inorganic functional materials, based on the related subjects and technologies such as surface coating technology, sol-gel modification technology and in-situ composite structure control technology. The center also cooperates with relevant enterprises to carry out collaborative research on applied technology and engineering technology, and obtain engineering commonality, key technologies and new products with market competitiveness that are suitable for industrial production and has built a first-class technological innovation development and engineering team. Furthermore, the center has carried out international cooperation and exchanges. As a result, the center has acquired new products and industrialized demonstration production lines with independent intellectual property rights in relevant fields, forming innovative and sustainable development capabilities. All of these promote technological advancement of China's inorganic functional materials industry, and enhance the technical level of related industries.

    The specific research and development direction of the center mainly includes:

    (1) Semiconductor silicon material defect engineering. It focuses on crystal growth, crystal processing, epitaxial growth and special doping, metal gettering, defect control, etc., and develop Czochralski silicon single crystal materials for VLSI and other new semiconductor materials to establish a silicon material industrialization demonstration line for integrated circuits and a corresponding semiconductor material engineering research base.

    (2) Surface coating technology. It focuses on the researches on atmospheric coating CVD, MOCVD, PCVD and other surface coating processes and large-area uniform coating technology and equipment and the development of new solar control coated glass, low-emission coated glass, easy-to-clean coated glass, solar glass, electromagnetic shielding glass. It aims to establish corresponding demonstration production lines and functional coating glass industrialization base.

    (3) Sol-gel modification technology. It focuses on the research of the sol-gel process mechanism, sol particle formation and growth, sol fine structure and properties to develop nano-modified electronic ceramic materials and devices, microwave dielectric ceramics and devices, ferroelectric/ferromagnetic composite materials, new photocatalyst self-cleaning materials, nano-modified biomaterials, phase change energy storage and thermal insulation building materials. It aims to establish corresponding demonstration production lines and build electronic ceramics and device industrialization bases and building energy-saving materials industrialization bases.

    (4) In-situ composite structure control technology. It focuses on the research of In-situ modification and structural control techniques for inorganic and inorganic-organic hybrid functional materials such as molecular engineering and external field induced regulation and development of the organic/inorganic composite luminescent materials, inorganic-organic hybrid nonlinear optical materials, inorganic-organic hybrid solid tunable dye laser media, metal-organic framework nano-mesoporous functional materials, phase change energy storage building materials, and inorganic- Organic hybrid photocatalytic material. It aims to establish corresponding demonstration production lines and build corresponding engineering bases. 

    The center has a total investment of 35 million yuan, a building area of 5,500 square meters and 95 employees. The total investment for capital construction costs is about 23 million yuan, including 1700 square meters for laboratory use, 3800 square meters for pilot base, office and related equipment. The total investment of product research and development and engineering research and development costs is 11 million yuan, which is mainly used for project research and development, engineering application and pilot line operation.
