The Institute of High Temperature Alloys of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University began construction in 2014 and was established in May 2018. The Institute will focus on high-performance structural materials for major national needs. Featuring the study of the relationship between material properties and microstructure, the institute carries on In-depth research on key scientific and technological issues in the optimization design, precision preparation and performance control of advanced superalloys and components. In order to meet the strategic needs of the country for materials such as superalloys, and cultivate excellent researchers for relevant fields in the country, the institute Gradually realize the application in aerospace, thermoelectricity and nuclear power equipment.

The institute has many experts in the field of precision manufacturing and processing, mechanical properties testing and microstructure analysis, including one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one “Qiushi” specially-invited professor. This forms a staff structure which is competitive in the fields of alloy design, alloy melting, precise solidification, service performance testing, microstructure analysis and other materials research, with academician Zhang Ze as the academic leader.

Zhejiang University invests more than 36 million yuan to purchase the main experimental equipment, and the Tonglu County Government provides and rebuilds nearly 4,000 square meters of laboratory and office space. The institute already has research conditions for high temperature alloy optimization design, microstructure analysis, precision molding, performance testing, etc. Under the leadership and support of Zhejiang University and Tonglu Government, Zhejiang University's Superalloy Research Institute will strive to build a world-class high-temperature alloy research and development and high-level talent training base.
