    Editor:yingwen Date:2018-08-01 Hits:277

The Institute of Inorganic Nonmetallic Materials originated from the silicate specialty which was established in 1958. It was formed in 1996 by the two institutes of inorganic nonmetallic materials and silicate materials, which developed independently.

The Institute currently undertakes the main teaching and research tasks of the inorganic non-metallic materials discipline, and has a team of professional teachers that are pioneers in their fields and innovative in all regard. There are 43 faculty members, including 17 professors, 12 associate professors, 27 doctorate degree holders the average age of senior professional title holders is around 45 years old. Among the teachers, there is one professor from the Cheung Kong Scholar Program, and 1 winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Most of the teachers have learned or worked abroad. The Institute enrolls undergraduates, postgraduates, and doctoral students in first-level disciplines in materials science and engineering (including materials, physical chemistry, materials science, and material processing engineering), and admits postdoctoral and visiting scholars from all over the world. In recent years, it has recruited 20-25 undergraduates, 30-40 postgraduates, 20 doctoral students, and 5-10 post-doctoral or domestic and foreign visiting scholars.

The basic research and application development of the institute are based on photoelectric functional materials, nanomaterials, new building materials, biomedical materials, material engineering control, and computational materials science. The institute has been dubbed a Top Ten Research Institute by Zhejiang University several times. In recent years, it has undertaken over 100 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation's key and surface projects, national key research and development plans, national research projects, national defense pre-research fund projects, provincial-level projects, and enterprise cooperation projects. Its annual average research funding totals nearly RMB 20 million, and It has won second prize at the National Natural Science Awards, second prize twice at the National Science and Technology Progress Awards, and more than 10 provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress awards. The institute has the authorization to issue more than 30 national invention patents and utility model patents annually and has published more than 60 academic papers that are published in SCI every year.
