The primary research interest of our group is to integrate nanotechnology and chemical biology to modulate the interactions between biomaterial surfaces and cells as well as tissues (especially for bone tissue). More specifically, our research focuses on designing surface nanostructures and identifying the various microenvironmental cues (e.g. topography, cell-cell interactions, and bioactive signals) to cellular behaviors and osteointegration. In addition, our group is also developing novel nanomaterials for bio-sensing as well as external-filed sensitive surfaces for applications for tissue repair and regeneration.

The group is leaded by Wenjian Weng (wengwj@zju.edu.cn). He was promoted as a full professor in Zhejiang University in 1997. He was Head or Vice Head of Department of Materials Science and Engineering in 2001-2013. Recently, more than 10 projects in the National Natural Foundation of China, the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China, and the Research Fund of Science and Technology Department of Zhejiang Province have been carried out as Principle Investigator. Up to now, he has more than 200 SCI papers, more than 50 granted invention patents.
