On the afternoon of April 8th, 2019, at the invitation of Academician Yang Deren, Professor Shan Chongxin, Dean of Department of Physical Engineering of Zhengzhou University, came to our college for an exchange visit, and brought a wonderful report entitled “Diamond: from Superhard Materials to Semiconductor Materials” to our teachers and students.

After a brief introduction to the physics discipline of Zhengzhou University, Professor Shan entered the theme of his academic report. In recent years, Professor Shan has been engaged in the research of wide band gap semiconductor materials and devices. The main research direction of the research group is diamond optoelectronic materials and devices. Henan is the only national base in the field of superhard materials in China, and the output of superhard materials accounts for more than 80% of the country’s total, which is also one of the key areas. The first man-made diamond in China was born in Henan Province. There are a number of competitive enterprises such as Zhengzhou Abrasive Grinding Research Institute and Zhongnan Diamond. Professor Shan combined his scientific research direction with the industrial advantages of Henan Province, and synthesized carat grade high-quality phase diamond by chemical vapor deposition method, which attracted the attention of the industry Cooperation and learning.

Finally, Professor Shan made a summary, emphasizing that although diamond is an excellent semiconductor material and widely used, there are still a lot of problems to be solved to realize device application, and more people are needed to promote its development. After sharing the report, Academician Yang presented Professor Shan with a memorial to the guest speaker of Qiushi Material Science Forum, and took a group photo with Professor Shan.
