Job Position:

Research Associate – Material Science

 

Business Context and Main Responsibilities of the Job:

Unilever’s long term vision of doubling the size of the business while reducing its environmental impact cannot be realized without growth in all categories and all markets.  Personal Care as the biggest of the four categories has a major share to play. Realization of this goal can only be achieved by delivering new products with fantastic benefits to our consumers that they will want to use again and again. This position is based in the Personal Care Discover Group whose role is to create break through innovations for all the categories within Personal Care with technologies that will deliver unbeatable benefits and winning value propositions to and for our consumers.

 

This role is based in the Discover group in Shanghai will work to design, prepare, characterize and evaluate technologies in support of Personal Care (PC).

 

1.       Identify lead materials and assess in robust POP studies for business relevant benefits

2.       Investigate new materials, system/technologies/products to bring in novel benefits to PC via in vitro/in vivo tests.

3.       Propose technical solutions, and evaluate the feasibility of those solutions and deliver recommendation to project leader on the best solutions for a specific technical challenge.

4.       Develop prototypes/product formats and evaluate via systematic experiments relevant to consumer application and provide recommendations for the formulation design.

5.       Propose, develop and guide the implementation of new or improved methodologies (in-vitro and in-vivo) for evaluating PC relevant benefits

6.       Work closely with Category Discover and Design collegues to facilitate the transfer of technologies towards a product launch

7.       Present results in internal meetings

8.       Write up reports summarizing results and create charts for presentation of results

9.       Follow all safety requirements and SOPs  required by the laboratory.

 

Main Requirements

 

1.       Master/PhD in materials science/colloid & interfacial science.

2.       Experience of design, preparation and measurement on personal care products will be preferred

Job Position:

Research Associate – Inorganic Chemist

 

Business Context and Main Responsibilities of the Job:

Realization of this goal with the growth and reduced impact on the environment can only be achieved by delivering new products with fantastic benefits to our consumers that they will want to use again and again.

 

This position is based in the Personal Care Discover Group whose role is to create break through innovations for all the categories within Personal Care with technologies that will deliver unbeatable benefits and winning value propositions to and for our consumers.  An equally important responsibility is to refill the funnel with new ideas and secure the long term innovation pipeline for Unilever’s Personal Care categories.

 

The candidate will work in the Discover in R&D function for the research in Chemistry or Material Science area and perform as an active project/team member with following responsibilities:

 

1.       Investigate new material technologies, and propose/develop/implement new/improved technologies/products to bring in novel consumer benefits to Personal Care;

2.       Develop prototypes and evaluate via defined protocols for consumer benefits, and make recommendation for formulation design;

3.       Develop new in-vitro/in-vivo protocols to evaluate the potential new consumer benefits of the lead technologies;

4.       Communicate and work closely with product design department to support the technologies transfer.

5.       Delivers effective reporting of scientific data, including peer-reviewed publications.

6.       Contribute new ideas to Material Science especially Inorganic Chemistry area for potential business opportunities;

7.       Present research works to multiple interfaces, both internally and externally;

8.       Build external academic partners network, and explore cooperation opportunities;

9.       Ensure all work is done in accordance with Unilever’s safety policies

 

Main Requirements

 

1.       Master or PhD in Material Science or other Chemical-related fields, Inorganic Chemistry is preferred;

2.       Proficient in material characterization and analysis methods;

3.       Candidate with experience/knowledge in biomineralisation or cosmetic products is preferred;

4.       Experience in particle design/deposition, biomineralisation, or tissue engineering, or microbiology/ cell biology  or colour measurement is a plus;

5.       Fluent spoken and written English.

6.       Open, responsible and cooperative, self-motivated, and creative thinking;

7.       Willing to take challenge, and able to work under pressure;

8.       Good communication skills and good team spirit.
