【报告题目】Low voltage TEM/STEM for atomic resolution imaging and spectroscopy

【报告摘要】

The realization of the spatial resolution (d) down to the wavelength limit (2) can be regarded as the ultimate goal of the electron optics developments in TEM. We have been developing the low-voltage TEM/STEM with the Delta corrector for higher order geometrical aberration correction [1, 2]. Up to now, a simple combination of the Delta corrector with a cold-FEG source can be used to get the atomic resolution at the operating voltage as low as 15 kV before the chromatic aberration does limits the spatial resolution. In this seminar, I summarize our recent progresses of low-voltage TEM/STEM within the scheme triple C project. The current status of our monochromator and chromatic aberration developments will be shown. The examples for atomic defect and edge analysis of low-dimensional materials, such as graphene, h-BN, MoS2, as well as 1D atomic chains [3,4,5], will be also presented.

【报告人简介】

Kazu Suenaga (born in Osaka in 1966) got his Ph.D in Materials Science at the University of Tokyo in 1994. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Mine de Paris (1994–1997) and at the Solid State Physics Laboratory in the University Paris-Sud (1997–1998). Then he joined the Japan Science and Technology Corporation (JST) as a researcher (1998–2001) and now is a prime senior researcher at National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). He has published over 140 scientif ic papers with more than 6,700 citations. His h-index is 41. A recipient of the Seto award (Japanese Society of Microscopy 2005), winner of the Sir Martin Wood prize (the British Embassy 2006) and grantee par Sumitomo Foundation (1997) and CREST-JST (2006). His major research theme
involves the atomic level characterization of individual molecules by means of electron microscopy and spectroscopy.
