报告人简介:

Prof. Chen is Distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Penn State. He received his B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University in 1982, M.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1985, and Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT in 1990.  After a two-year postdoc at Rutgers University, he joined the faculty at Penn State in 1992. Chen’s main research interest is developing phase-field and multiscale computational models for predicting microstructure evolution in materials during phase transformations, grain growth, particle coarsening, ferroelectric and multiferroic domain switching, and coupled ionic/electronic transport in Li-ion batteries and solid oxide fuel cells.

Chen has published over 370 papers and co-edited 3 books in computational microstructure evolution with total number of citations > 10,000 and H-index of 52.  Chen received numerous awards including Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award (1995), NSF special research creativity award (1999), Penn State Earth and Mineral Science College Wilson Award for Excellence in Research (2000), Penn State University Faculty Scholar Medal in Engineering (2003), Guggenheim Fellow (2005), ASM Materials Research Silver Medal (2006), American Physical Society (APS) Fellow (2008), TMS EMPMD Distinguished Scientist/Engineer Award (2011), ASM Fellow (2012), and Materials Research Society (MRS) Fellow (2013).
